Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough - September 26, 2016

What's up fam!!!

 - playing ball last preparation day... now for those of you that aren't Halo nerds like Brady and I you probably won't get this... but I went to give the basketball to Elder Bennet (my halo buddy). I asked "do you have it? Say you have it." Elder Bennet - "I have it." *gives him the basketball/Cortana*

- we were chilling at Institute with an investigator. I walk out to get a drink and the Stake President tells me he needs someone to go do visits. So I pulled a quick one and went and did visits with President Repscher. It was pretty fun, he's a boss. We had a good time.

- had a dream I was transferred to Ohio... and I was companions with @teambetaalpha... and we taught Urban Meyer... greatest dream ever.

- did some mall proselyting... we ran into an investigator and started teaching them... happened to be this went down right in front of Victoria Secret so that was a new environment for a lesson that's for sure.

- saw Elder Baird on Wednesday when the new missionaries were driving through. He told me he wants me to be an assistant for the sole purpose of him being able to torment me about being a Utah fan every day in the office. I'll shed a manly tear when he and Sister Baird are no longer in the office.

- made spaghetti for Elder Bennet and Elder McElvany. Wasn't the same without Jared but I tried. Rapping Gold Digger solo as the sausage cooked just wasn't as fun. We also finally killed the wasp that had been in our apartment for 24 hours so that was a big deal. The wasp is currently sleeping peacefully in the groot shrine.

- the frat across from campus was building a rameumpton... actually I think it was a homecoming float but wouldn't shock me if they were. They go hard... all day everyday... I don't know if I should be concerned or impressed.

- Mission requested we get flu shots and that kind of crap is about on the same level of raptors and ticks on lists of things I hate so we are gonna make it a party and do a zone flu shot party so I don't hate it as much. Probably go to OG after and get some bread sticks... yeah

- went and checked out the MSU football practice... They didn't have a 72 year old defensive coordinator dancing to "don't stop til you get enough" during stretch but it was still cool.  Coach Pease = GOAT 👴🏻🐐

- I have told Elder Hunter (Wisconsin fan) repeatedly the importance of the tie you wear on game day and how it affects your team... he thought I was crazy... well Badgers are 4-0 and he plans on wearing the tie the rest of the games. #ItsOnlyCrazyIfItDoesntWork

- Jace (WML) got engaged this week so Hunger Games salute to him as he gets ready to leave the YSA.

- tried a new contacting approach on campus. What we do is walk campus looking for each letter in the alphabet (on like buildings and stuff) and ask students where we can find the letter. We get some weird looks but we get weird looks anyway so I don't care.

- had a lesson with Jon... he's so solid. Stud RC.

- Jasmine had us over for dinner and we had a lesson with her non member roommate around the campfire, pretty sweet. We also had a #CrisisAverted, She nearly lit herself on fire... typically when you pour gasoline to increase the fire you don't stand down wind from it.

- Eli is practically my sports center out here. He gives me the entire run down on college football Saturday's during EQ. Perks of serving in a YSA is there are CFB nerds like me.

- went down to Belgrade for dinner with Bishop Smith. Super fun night. Stovall was outside so we stopped by... he was typical Stovall, freakin hilarious. Went and saw Gina and Kenny!!! Man I love it here so much.  Belgrade is just... home, I love it so much. I'm gonna be back up here a lot.

- While in Belgrade I got a prompting to go visit a former investigator that Elder Christensen and I taught last year, our old pal Larry. The first lesson the dynamic duo of Elder Apple Pie and Elder Whipped Cream ever taught was to Larry. If you don't remember he's the one we held a surprise 75 birthday for with celestial brownies... and he still remembers the brownies... he made a painful groaning noise and put it has hand over his stomach when I brought them up... #AchievementUnlocked. Really good seeing him, he wants us to come by and teach him some more.

Overall a pretty eventful week. Had a little minor meltdown on Friday morning cause we were walking campus in the rain and straight up NO ONE wanted to talk to us. Gets a little frustrating. One of those "we have no food we have no jobs our PETTS HEADS ARE FALLING OFF" moments, but then we went and saw Gina and she gave me chocolate and pizza and that fixed it up for the most part. #GinaKnows

We have a solid slate ahead of us for this week. We have 1 boy and 3 girls we are teaching (all separate) and they seem pretty solid and looks like some potential baptisms on the way which will be pretty sweet.

Sunday School lesson yesterday was another big highlight. Especially with it being on @pettbryan's birthday,  the lesson was "work ethic". Don't know if there is a better example in my life of that than my dad. Something I'm trying to learn out here. Gotta stay patient, diligent, humble, and respect the process. Really grateful for the examples I have had in my life, grateful for the mission and all it's teaching me. Have a lot I need to learn!

Mission, life, whatever, you keep on workin. Goin back to the Michael Jackson hit I mentioned earlier, you "don't stop till you get enough"... well I guess you can never stop learning on a mission/life... you can never stop strengthening your testimony... you can never get enough of the gospel. And if you don't stop till you get enough... then I guess you never stop right???

So, that's what I learned this week! Work hard like @pettbryan. Respect the process. Always stay humble and kind. Family on 3.

Go Utes & enjoy general conference this weekend! #GetUpItsGameday #GetUpItsGenConf

Love ya fam!

Ping Pong Roulette - September 19, 2016

WHATS UP FAM!!!

--- transfer calls yesterday, got 6 more in Bozeman baby. Freakin love it here. #TDFW

  • there was a bear cub in the Walmart parking lot. #WelcomeToMontana

  • Quote of the Week. "Cache how was class?" Cache - "You ever seen a horse kick a guy in the face?" #💵👑

  • Went to #BGrade for dinner with the Carlsons. One of my all time favorite families. I told Bishop I liked his Frozen bike that was in the front yard (it's his daughters). He responds "it's getting a little small (he's like 6'5 or something) and I was going to throw it away but I just can't LET IT GO." Bishop Carlson = GOAT. Their daughter may play volleyball at the U which means they'll come down to watch games and me and Bishop can Flarp with each other.

  • Got a knock on our door one day... I open it up and B1 elders (McElvany and Bennet) are standing there with lightsabers. They said my custom lightsaber from Disneyland and Darth Vader footie pajamas inspired them. I nearly cried I was so proud, most proud I have ever been as a zone leader.

  • so now we have random zone light saber battles and occasionally try and force choke each other in public but we stop once we start getting too many weird looks from civilians. #SorryMom

  • got a package from elder apple pie (E. Christensen) and it was full of a bunch of random stuff and it was wrapped in approximately 694 yards of tape. It was very thoughtful. He's gonna rock it this transfer up in Kalispell.

  • took an investigator to institute... it was about the restoration and I was having non stop mind grenades going off. Pretty sweet. My mind was absolutely blown but good news is the investigator wants to come back for more! #ChurchIsTrue

  • walking campus one day... not much going on. Thought to my self - "what would Jared and I be doing?"... ruled out the first 4 things that came to mind due to legal formalities and/or the missionary handbook.  Idea number 5 came to mind but I doubted they had 3D printers to make a storm trooper helmet... then I saw a girl in a hammock... heck yeah, idea #6... we'd so put up a hammock. Went and talked to her and her friend about football and the gospel for an hour. It was sweet. The friend was from the bay and he and I pretty much had a PAC 12 talk show going on. #BackThePac

  • Elder Bennet wasn't feeling too well so I chilled with him in the car during morning ball and we listened to the halo soundtrack while talking about Master Chief. It made me shed a manly tear thinking that's something @TeamBetaAlpha and I would do.

  • we had B1 and B2 over one night. Things escalated quickly. We had a lightsaber battle. Pretty much turned into a anchorman fight scene #BrickKilledAGuy. At the end I proposed the idea we have a 1 day purge where once a transfer we get all our disobedience out in one day. Obviously I'm kidding but not gonna lie it might be a good idea.

  • Times like that I seriously wonder how the heck I'm a zone leader haha. Work is getting done and pretty obedient zone so maybe the force choking and light saber battles work. #ItsOnlyCrazyIfItDoesntWork #BozeForce

  • did an exchange with Elder Earl. Good guy, really good guy. Was sent into Bozeman as a district leader with a brand new missionary while only being out 6 months kind of like what I did in Conrad so I feel for him, it's not easy. We had a fun exchange and saw the Jepsons... when I walked in they started singing Utah Man for me... definitely one of my favorite BYU fams out here.

  • talking to another kid on campus, he was sitting by a tree. His dog started chasing a squirrel around and the leash wrapped around the guy's neck and it was pretty crazy but he lived. #Squirrel

  • got a call from a kid going to BYUI. He had a solid referral for us. Before we hang up I asked where he served his mission... here's how that went down...

"Peru."
"Which part?'
"Lima."
"Which mission?"
"Central"
"You know Elder Mann"
"I KNOW ELDER MANN!!!!"
"WHAAAA!!!!"
#DidWeJustBecomeBestFriends

He and his friend came to church. She's solid. We'll probably start teaching her soon. Pretty sweet he knew Hayden.

  • laid down sod for 4 hours on Saturday... so much fun, you know it was a good day when 2 days later you are still trying to get the dirt out from under your finger nails. Their neighbor showed up who isn't a member, went to the U and big Utes fan so we had a good talk about football.

  • We spoke in church yesterday. Talked about personal conversion, I straight up winged it and I think I used Steph Curry, Jerry Sloan, NBA 2K, Walt Disney all as references... didn't use Ron Swanson at all which looking back makes me a little disappointed but it was fun.

  • B1 was over again last night... I came up with a new game.. ping pong roulette. Pretty much you turn the fan on high speed. Stand in the room. And take turns throwing the ping pong ball into the fan. Sometimes it goes through clean... other times it comes back and drills someone. So much fun. #ThingsYouDoWhenYouCantWatchSNF #IMissCarrie
One of my fave parts of the week was Sunday. I love this YSA so much. Sunday School was about sacrifice and it was a cool lesson. Sacrifice has taken on a new meaning for me since I started my mission. Originally it was "I'm giving up SO MUCH to do this". Over time that mentality has changed and I've realized everything I love is from God anyway. My family, my job, my friends, the mouse, the panther... Everything is from Him, my entire time here on earth, the family I have. I'm borrowing from Him, so really it's not that big of deal I give up 2 years. I owe it to Him, nothing will match all he's given me but I wanna do my best to give it all to Him when he asks of it.

I know he loves us, the restored gospel is proof. I absolutely love getting to share the message we share. I'm loving my mission, just gotta own it... ping ping roulette... light saber battles... freaking own it. Wasn't easy giving up life but looking back I'm so glad I did. This is pretty awesome. Every second that ticks by the future is running out. #ULegacy

Love ya Fam!

- the night where things escalated quickly. Unfortunately Elder Hunter was in the shower.

 - when Elder Christensen sends packages ❤️

- LUIGI... LIGHTNING.. MATER!!! I KIND OF FREAKED OUT WHEN I SAW THESE THINKING ABOUT Z

- found this paper about survival tactics... had to send it to Cache. #💵👑

- "The Force Zone"

- Bambi outside of church

- Said goodbye to Elder Jaques on Friday before he wrapped up his mission. He's like a bro to me, very grateful to have had him as a trainer

- cub at Walmart... I DID NOT take this pic so not taking the credit for it, someone sent it to me. Still pretty sweet!

- laying sod... not sure why but this arrangement of sod reminded me of my family... specifically @pettbryan

- teaching Elder McElvany how to do the money money so he can be McElManziel

- me and B1 at morning ball

- briar wearing his future missionary pin that my mom got. Corey (his dad) got sustained for the Melchizedek Priesthood last week. Pretty sweet, that family has come a long ways since last fall. I'm telling ya, proof the Gospel is meant for families.

- ping pong roulette

- ... mine and Elder McElvany's relationship. He was playing with the car thing and shot it out of the plastic which led to some good messages.

It's Only Crazy if it Doesn't Work

WHATS UP FAM!!!

- got back from shopping last Monday and apparently I placed my toothpaste in the fridge. Didn't realize this till next morning when Elder Hunter asked why I keep my toothpaste in the fridge. #ImBlonde

- I hit 8 half-court shots during basketball on Monday... Yet I still can't make a layup #CallMePettBryan

- Played frisbee for YSA FHE Monday night. Super fun. I suck at throwing so I pretty much just ran post routes and streaks for the end zone the entire time, got a few touchdowns while lookin like K-Scott out there #AFG. We had a random guy come and start playing and he's lookin for a church to join, that was sweet. Super fun night, I love the YSA.

- went to Fro Yo after YSA Ultimate... Ole miss - FSU was on the tv and I turned my back on it. #AchievementUnlocked

- So we ball up or play football at the park by our house at 6:30 in the morning with the Bozeman 1 and 2 elders... Well it was 37 degrees one morning so I joked around we should go to IHOP for pancakes and hot chocolate... Things escalated quickly and next thing I know we are all downing IHOP instead of exercising.

- We straight up had a sermon going down at a sorority. Few girls were outside painting the side walk or a shirt or their toe nails or whatever girls paint, I don't know what, anyway we got talking to them. Few more came out. Next thing I know we have shared the restoration and have 5 new investigators. #AchievementUnlocked

---- they claimed they want to build a tunnel to our church so they can secretly see what we do and I told them they could just walk in through the front door if they really want to. #Science

- had a dream one night. A DREAM MOM, A DREAM. A bear was chasing me then it turned out to be less active and wanted the gospel and that's why he was chasing me. #MontanaProbs. missions give you weird dreams.

- So #PlotTwist I have started making 3's at Ward ball and Cache is planning on making Pistol Pett shirts for he and I to wear. The only plausible explanation of how this happened is that I harnessed my inner Tingey...

- called Elder Baird on Wednesday. He asked if I was crying... I asked why... He said "cause you are gonna lose the game this Saturday." #ShotsFired.

- did splits with Cache and Jace. Our trio was equally dynamic as the Dunder Mifflin trio when Michael, Dwight, and Jim were disguised as warehouse workers. We talked about missionary stealth tactics such as the #BreachAndBaptize and Cache told us how his sister signed him up for Farmersonly.com while he was on his mission... Reminded me of the time Jared made an account for Cody. #NeverForget

- we were talking to our man Jesus who is a huge CFB nerd. Big Texas fan, gave us the run down on the game against ND. We were nerding out hardcore and when I told him we can't watch games I think a small piece inside of him died. He gave us some home made salsa cause he felt bad and that was amazing.

- Kayla Turner came in clutch on having her friend meet with us. She met with missionaries in the past but it fizzled out, sounds like she's ready now. We put her on baptismal date for October 22, super grateful for the work the YSA members are doing.

- Elder Spackman of the 70 came in for stake conference. He called out Hunter and I during the adult session for what the most used scripture is in the Book of Mormon. I guessed 1 Nephi 3:7 and that wasn't it. Hunter came in clutch and guessed it right, it was Moroni's promise. This is why we have companions. #IHadOneJob.

- after the adult session we were talking with President Wadsworth... He may or may not have been talking updates with us on the holy war taking place a few hundred miles south of Bozeman... He also had a red tie on. As did our stake president... And his counsellor... And the presiding member of the 70... 🐸☕️

- we told President it's near impossible doing work on a Saturday the Cats are playing, because straight up everything on campus is intoxicated and he laughed. Felt good being on a college campus on a CFB Saturday though. Bobcat Stadium is no RES but it looked sweet from the outside.

- Stake conference rocked. Elder Spackman is awesome, talked to him a little after and he's a classy guy. Shared a very powerful testimony at the end that I loved. His wife told me

"be the missionary your mom knows you are".

That was cool.

- Sat by Will and Rachel at stake conference... Will pointed out the older  guy next to us looked like Bob Barker which led to an onslaught of Happy Gilmore quotes for he and I. #WelcomeToTheYSA #PriceIsWrong

- We had B2 over one night and we were trying to give ourselves charlie horses in our feet and that was fun. #ThingsYouDoWhenYouCantWatchSNF

It was a sweet week. Went by fast. Lots happened. President came in for interviews and as always those are a big highlight. We only get them every few months but that 1 on 1 time with President just fuels you up. We had a good chat, for the most part talked about the zone and he likes the direction its going. He too agrees with the Tim McGraw doctrine, always stay humble and kind. I honestly think it's been the new missionaries, they've brought a lot of life this transfer. Having Elder Bennet and Elder Carter in Bozeman has been way fun, I love these new missionaries... The stories we have haha. Non stop laughter with the Bozeman 1 and 2 elders.

President and I talked about opportunities after the mission. Not what I was expecting  he'd talk to me about. He brought it up pretty randomly but we had a cool discussion. 10 months is a lot of time but pretty crazy he's already bringing that stuff up in interviews. Also talked about the different coaching tactics of John Wooden vs Bobby Knight and how that applies to being a missionary, leader, husband, father... It got deep for what started as a conversation about basketball. I want to be a John Wooden.

Last... we brought up college football. Straight up told him I'm trying hard haha. His response "Elder Pett... I served my mission during the glory years of UNLV basketball and I know exactly what you mean... It is hard." He laughed as he said it and it wasn't the response I was expecting haha. He told me those highlights will mean even more when you look back and know you served with all you have. He's just so real, I love it. He knows it's hard when you are a sports nerd haha.

So instead of singing Utah Man Saturday night I was singing Come Come Ye Saints (last verses are strangely familiar BTW) at a stake conference in Bozeman Montana, I thought that was kind of cool. siblings sent an email saying we won. Brady's voice recording of the 2pt stop will be making an appearance in #UReturn. Got a tear when I found out grandpa was able to go. Then I was so wired I couldn't sleep and stayed up till 11:30 (that's late for a missionary) eating Totino's pizzas and Danimals while wearing my Utes sweat shirt to celebrate the W. #TDFW. Another classic Holy War, Good game Cougs.

I'm trying hard to stay focused on the work but at the end of the day I still get so freakin stoked for Utah football, if you guys only knew how much I loved what I did. A Utah Man, sir, I will be till I die.

Oh and the magic of the tie lives... #ItsOnlyCrazyIfItDoesntWork

Which got me thinking... The gospel, serving a mission, callings, church, all of it. It's only crazy if it doesn't work. And quite frankly, it works, much more than a superstitious red tie. I've seen it work. It doesn't take away from challenges, but it works in helping us. It unites families, brings direction, puts you on a path to joy. It's only crazy if it doesn't work, and the gospel works.

We'll close spiritually with a scripture, 3 nephi 27:30 - (Christ speaking) -

And now, behold, my joy is great, even unto fulness, because of you, and also this generation; yea, and even the Father rejoiceth, and also all the holy angels, because of you and this generation

The Nephites weren't perfect, they didn't have a strong knowledge in everything, a lot of them were recently converted. But in a short amount of time, they were converted to the gospel, repented, and followed Christ's example in being a better people and doing so is what brought joy to Heavenly Father.

It really doesn't take too much to make our Father in Heaven and our Savior happy.

I love 3 Nephi, if there is a "Saturday Night Prime Time College Football with Kirk Herbstreit and Brent Musberger on the Call" Book In the Book of Mormon it's 3 Nephi. So awesome. I love the Book of Mormon. Read it fam.

My favorite thing I have learned from my mission, God loves all of us, Christ does too. Their joy comes from US, let's do our best to make them happy. The gospel is here for our benefit, in return it brings joy to the one's who love us most.

Church is true fam. I love my mission, love what it's teaching me.

I'm teaching my dream calling of mission prep with him pretty much, so much fun.). Bottom - Pett, Delimata, Styer, Eifert, Johnson, Ashcroft, McElvany/McBuckets/McElManziel, Carter. We have a solid zone.

Baby Groot - September 5, 2016

What's up fam!!!

- I caved and bought a baby groot... Best $19 I have ever spent. I put it by our window so when people walk by they see a solar powered dancing groot with pictures of Jesus. If seeing that doesn't make you happy I don't know what will.

- turns out after extended periods of time the dancing groot will slide a few inches so I went a good couple days thinking it was alive. Straight up was super excited but a little freaked out at the same time.

- Sent in some baptismal forms to the mission and a I slid a note in for Elder Baird... #HolyWarIsComing

- Elder Bennet quoted Dwight Schrute, Ron Swanson, and Coach Hines all within about 3 minutes of each other and I nearly cried I was so proud.

- Institute party on Tuesday. Dexter and I played pool and he had about 5 balls left and all I had was the 8 ball... Well I went full on #ChokeCity and Shanked it and knocked it into the wrong pocket so I lost.

- went golfing... WITH AN INVESTIGATOR. It was Max's uncle. So much freakin fun. They all just moved from Mexico and it was possibly the second funniest round of golf I have played right next to last time with Crane, Stovall, and Washburn. Played alright but I'm still super rusty.

- rocked the red tie - Salt Lake Temple tie pin - And drum and feather dress socks on Thursday. I'll be wearing the same tie Saturday as I wore December 19, 2015. #ItsOnlyCrazyIfItDoesntWork

- Thursday night YSA Ward ball rocked!!!  I didn't suck and for the first time in my life I earned myself a nick name on the court. We got some solid nicknames going on. #PistolPett #ShaqcacheKing

- Elder Wells came in for exchanges. The #Bromance lives. We had so much fun and it brought back a lot of memories. We only had 2 close calls on our bikes and one resulted in Wells eating it but he kept his Panda Express from spilling everywhere so #CrisisAverted #StephenWells #YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMeMarv

- Saturday may have been known by most of you as being the best opening weekend in college football but it was all about baptism in the Bozeman Zone! 3 separate companionships had baptisms! It was awesome. We have a young zone but they are getting work done.

- One of the GOAT's of the MBM rolled into town for the Belgrade baptism. THE Jake Topham. It was awesome seeing him, I've missed that guy. We got a pic together and his mom said "move the trash out of the way." I said - "one mans trash is another mans treasure" and Topham responds "hold on tight we'll do it together". Jamesthemormon For the win.

- wore the blue and white tie Saturday for my Cougar family out there - Brother Jarret, Skinner, DellaSilva, @jonnybgbold, Elder Wells. Bro Jarret was at the baptism and man he was so stoked for the game, I freakin love him. This rivalry isn't near as bad when you aren't on the toxic Sears parking lot play ground of Twitter and instead around your chill Montana family.

- Church was great. Testimony meetings at YSA's are my fave. We had a break the fast pot luck after... Breakfast themed... And I made Mickey Mouse waffles.

I'm sure lots more happened but we will call it good there. It was a crazy week. September is already here what the heck??? It's been 40's and raining so Fall didn't waste any time coming in, super pretty time of year to be in Bozeman, sounds like we could be getting snow this week... Bozeman is the place to be. Pretty cool seeing the zone catch on fire especially with it having a lot of new missionaries. Weird to think that was Elder Christensen and I a year ago.

Also thought it was really cool seeing "Jake" with his mom. My mom always says she wishes she could see me out here, and even though Elder Topham is now back to Jake, it was neat seeing how happy his mom was seeing him do work in his old area. She was so happy, that was cool to see. Then we were at the Turners the next night and you can see how proud they are of Ethan, especially Brother Turner . It's cool seeing that perspective.

Well that's my life right now. Fam is all in Park City partying it up and I'm in Bozeman, Montana... While serving on a college campus and being expected to have complete abstinent thoughts about college football... It's like putting a Mrs Fields cookie in front of @pettbryan and telling him not to eat it...  but so far I'm staying strong! #AchievementUnlocked

Not to be a downer but man I miss my family!!! Fall is the FUNNEST time of year back home for us. Rough not being there for it. Helps me appreciate even more how much I love my family when you can't be there. That's just part of the 2 years, church is still true and I'm grateful for the relationships and family I have out here.  I love my mission, love what it's taught me, love the adventures. Love the Naps burgers. It's been a sweet a 14. Just freakin hard! Good thing I have a baby groot though.

Love ya fam.
